TRiO Student Support Services (TRiO/SSS) 

The TRiO Student Support Services project at Finlandia University strives to empower 180 qualifying students to articulate and achieve their personal, educational and career goals by providing services, resources and support systems that promote retention and graduation.  TRiO/SSS is funded 100% by a grant through the U.S. Department of Education with a total of $287,153 to serve 180 students per year.

TRiO Student Support Services launches students into higher education.  If you fill out an application, have at least one of the qualifications for the program, and have completed your intake interview you will be able to use the following services.

• Academic Counseling
• Career/Transfer Assistance
• Personal Counseling
• Financial Aid Assistance/Planning
• Tutoring
• Laptop Loan
• Copy Center

Students with academic, career, or personal concerns may find it helpful to talk directly with a Student Support Services staff member. All services are free and confidential.

Eligiblilty

You are eligible for TRiO Student Support Services if:

• you are a first generation college student;

                          and/or

• you have financial need;

                             or

• you have a physical or learning disability

                           and

• you have academic need.

Being a first generation college student means that neither one of your parents completed a four-year college or university (Bachelor's) degree.

Having financial need means that your individual or family's taxable income falls below the official federal income figure determined by family size.

Having a disability means that you have a documented physical or learning disability that may affect your role as a student.

Academic need includes, but is not limited to, any of the following: HS or college GPA below 3.0; composite ACT score of 20 or below; earned GED; failing grades; out of school 5 years or more; undeclared major/or no clear career goals; single parent; need for personal counseling.

APPLICATION 

Once eligibility has been determined, you must meet with your TRiO/SSS contact person for an intake interview in order to become a full participant and utilize TRiO/SSS services.
